As my wife explained, for expediency, we opted to obtain our residency permits in the city of Çanakkale, rather than Istanbul. That’s right, we chose to travel to a city in Asia, rather than wait for an appointment in Istanbul. Çanakkale happened to be the home of Letty’s professor in Turkey, an incredibly generous woman who shared her time and opened her house to us. Once our paperwork was complete, we could only wait, so we mounted several local excursions to pass the time. Here are some images from our arrival, a trip to the market and a mini-holiday to the island of Bozcaada, the first (and least academic) of our outings.
